A Path Rooted in the Light of the Prophet ﷺ
The Shadhilliya Darqawiya Habibiya is a living branch of the noble Shadhili order, tracing its origins to Imam Abul Hasan al-Shadhili (may Allah be pleased with him), the great saint of North Africa whose light illuminated the Muslim world in the thirteenth century. Through an unbroken chain of transmission, the teachings, practices, and spiritual states of the masters have been preserved and passed down to the present day.
The path was renewed through the blessed hands of Sidi Muhammad al-Arabi al-Darqawi, whose letters and teachings breathed fresh life into the Shadhili way.
In the 20th century, it was renewed by Shaykh Muhammad ibn Al-Habib and it is his composition of the Wird that we recite and live by to this day.
Unbroken Chain of Light
The silsila—the chain of transmission—connects every murid through an unbroken lineage of masters back to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. This living chain is not merely historical; it is a conduit of baraka, spiritual blessing, that flows from heart to heart across the centuries.
Remembrance of Allah
At the heart of the Shadhili path lies the constant remembrance of Allah —dhikr—performed with presence of heart and sincerity of intention. The teachings of the masters illuminate the inner dimensions of worship, guiding the murid toward purification of the soul and nearness to the Divine.
Company of the Righteous
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Sit with those who remind you of Allah.” The gatherings of the Shadhilliya Darqawiya Habibiya are spaces where hearts are polished and the love of Allah and His Messenger ﷺ is renewed.
